State sales tax on bridge sets bad example
Bridge toll increases to cover “deferred state sales tax payments.”

Are you kidding me?

The state is charging itself sales tax on the bridge construction? This sounds like just another avenue to drain the working class of their last few dollars.

Rest assured, I will vote strongly against any future tax increases of any nature, be it EMS, fire, education, police or road repairs.

Americans should be free to choose partners
Marlyn Jensen’s letter (Gateway, Jan. 11) urges state legislators to concentrate on balancing the budget and not waste time on social issues such as gay marriage.

I find it difficult to understand how any person who believes in American principles of individual freedom would seek to deny couples the right to marry.

If a person finds same-sex unions to be distasteful, that person may choose to refrain from such a union.

But to deny that opportunity to others should be unthinkable in a society which prides itself on individual freedom.
