KENNEWICK -- A 31-year-old Kennewick man suspected of drunken driving on Highway 395 is accused of ramming his car into a trooper's patrol car twice before being arrested.
Washington State Patrol Trooper James Zane tried to stop Steven Barrett Silliman around 9:50 p.m. Monday after clocking him going 51 mph in a 35-mph zone on Highway 395 at Seventh Avenue in Kennewick, court documents said.
Silliman allegedly failed to stop at 10th Avenue, and Zane began chasing him as Silliman turned onto South Ely Street. Zane said Silliman ran a red light at 27th Avenue and continued through the intersection at 60 mph, documents said.
Silliman reportedly was going more than 80 mph and pulling away from Zane's patrol car.
Silliman then turned into a private driveway at 5001 S. Ely St. and stopped, documents said.
He then put his car in reverse and accelerated backward into Zane's patrol car, documents said. Zane was able to back up his car, but Silliman allegedly accelerated backward again, hitting the cruiser a second time and pushing it back several feet.
Silliman was arrested, and his blood-alcohol level reportedly was about two times the 0.08 percent legal limit.
Silliman was booked into the Benton County jail on suspicion of second-degree assault, attempting to elude police and DUI.
Police probe car prowls, home burglaries in Finley
FINLEY -- Benton County sheriff's deputies are investigating a series of vehicle prowls and home burglaries in the Finley area overnight Sunday.
At least 10 victims reported their vehicles were broken into in the area of Terril and Game Farm roads and Fremont Street, Deputy Joe Lusignan told the Herald. Cash, electronics and other miscellaneous items were stolen, he said.
Deputies also took a report Monday morning of a residential burglary and vehicle theft on Terril Road the same night.
In that case, a 2003 Oldsmobile Alero and tractor were stolen, along with the washer and dryer, bathroom mirror and office chair.
No suspects have been identified, Lusignan said.
Prosser man allegedly points shotgun at wife during argument
PROSSER -- A 24-year-old Prosser man was arrested Monday after allegedly pointing a loaded sawed-off shotgun at his wife during an early-morning argument.
The 19-year-old woman told Benton County sheriff's deputies that she began arguing with her husband, Kyle Ross Heintz, around 2 a.m. Monday, and he slapped her several times and spit on her, court documents said.
Heintz reportedly was extremely intoxicated and threatened to cut her throat and stomach, documents said.
Sometime during the argument, which lasted until he left home about 5:30 a.m., Heintz allegedly grabbed a shotgun, pumped it and pointed it at her, documents said. The victim reportedly told deputies she didn't know if her husband would pull the trigger.
Heintz sat down on a chair and kept the loaded gun pointed at her until he left, documents said.
When deputies searched the home, they seized three guns, including the shotgun with a sawed-off barrel. The shotgun had one round in the chamber and the safety was off, said Deputy Joe Lusignan.
Heintz was reached by phone and turned himself in later in the day, Lusignan said.
Police arrest Richland man for kidnapping, robbery, assault
RICHLAND -- A Richland man accused of getting mad at his wife when she refused to give him money for drugs is being held without bail in the Benton County jail.
Steven Christopher Hudnall, 35, was arrested Saturday by Benton County sheriff's deputies on suspicion of first-degree kidnapping, first-degree robbery and third-degree domestic-violence related assault.
Hudnall's wife reported the incident to deputies Jan. 10. She said her husband became mad at her Jan. 7 because she wouldn't give him money to buy drugs, and grabbed her by the hair and dragged her out of the Conoco station in Benton City, said Deputy Joe Lusignan.
He allegedly drove her to the Horse Heaven Hills area, tied her wrists and beat her with his hands, feet and a belt, before taking money from her purse, documents said.
Hudnall later dropped her off at a friend's home in Benton City and left, Lusignan said.
