Newlywed Moore will play a lot early
Last updated: January 18th, 2012 12:27 AM (PST)

Puyallup’s Ryan Moore earned more than $1 million for a sixth consecutive season on the PGA Tour – $1.94 million, to be exact – but came away with something much more valuable this offseason.

After a year of dating fellow ex-UNLV athlete Nichole Olson, a soccer player, the two wed in October in Malibu, Calif.

“Pulling together a wedding in six months is not easy,” Moore said. “She drove her mom and sister crazy ... but she had a vision for it. It was beautiful; outdoors and on a beautiful day.”

The newlyweds immediately took off so Moore could play in his final tournament of the year in Malaysia. After that, they went on their honeymoon in nearby Melanesia.

They hit the ground running when they returned to the mainland in November. In addition to relocating to their new home in Las Vegas, Moore started up a golf management company called the RMG Club and began an offseason workout program with athletic trainer Mark Kleven.

He has barely had time to ease into his new life with Nichole.

“I don’t think she has changed the name on her ID yet,” Moore said. “We are moving and doing so much stuff ... that October and November were gone so quickly, and in December, we came home and just enjoyed time with family.”

Moore begins the 2012 PGA Tour season Thursday at the Humana Challenge. Because he didn’t play much golf the past two months, he said he was going to play more than usual during the West Coast swing.

Nichole will be along for many tournaments – with the occasional break back to Las Vegas to visit her own family.

“She loves it,” Moore said. “She is better than I am at traveling.”

There are no immediate plans for starting a family, Moore said. But as this season unfolds, he said he will make a concerted effort to find time away from the grind of professional golf.

“Family is a number 1 priority,” Moore said. “That means you have to work around things, be creative and maybe play a week you would not normally play, then take a week off on a tournament you would.

“Being married should do nothing but enhance my career.”

Arnold Palmer Enterprises and Quagmire Golf have developed a new clothing line called “Arnie,” designed to reflect Palmer’s classic look from the 1950s through the 1970s.

They found the PGA Tour player they believe is perfect for the look – Ryan Moore.

Moore is a throwback, even wearing a skinny tie with a cardigan sweater on occasion. He will wear the “Arnie” collection on tour and make marketing appearances for the company.

The collection was developed, in part, by going through Palmer’s personal library of photographs. It will be distributed this year over six months, with three styles — the 1950s (fitted pants and tops, small collars and shorter sleeves); the 1960s (wider pant legs and collars); and the 1970s (slightly wider collars, with gray as the signature color).
