BELLINGHAM - A severe-weather homeless shelter run by the Interfaith Coalition has sheltered dozens of people since opening Sunday night.
They sheltered 33 homeless people that night, 54 on Monday night, 65 on Tuesday and 70 Wednesday.
The shelter was open again Thursday night, Jan. 19. It's status for Friday night will be determined on Friday. Check the coalition's severe weather hotline, 360-788-7983, for an update.
The shelter at Garden Street United Methodist Church, 1326 N. Garden St., has served men, women and children.
The Interfaith shelter needs donations of warm socks for men and women, hand sanitizer and boxes of tissues. Those who want to help are asked to bring these items to Garden Street United Methodist Church.
The Lighthouse Missions' Drop-In Center for the homeless, at 1012 W. Holly St., will open at 8 a.m. on Friday. The center will continue to hold morning hours at least as long as the Interfaith shelter is open, Lighthouse Executive Director Ron Buchinski said.
The center will open at 8 a.m. Saturday and Sunday across the street at the mission's chapel.
