Do you have a monologue in an upcoming performance or have you just finished a scene in a new play and need some theater feedback? Cindy Arnold from Live Paint is opening up a new space this weekend to help you get just that: In a Spaceworks site on the Hilltop, Arnold will conduct free theater workshops Saturday afternoons to help bring the local theater community together in a fun, no-stress environment.
Arnold has been offering dramatic and artistic workshops for adults and kids for years, including some recent ones at the Tacoma Public Library. Now she has a space of her own, thanks to Spaceworks, the ongoing City of Tacoma project that offers creative artists who have limited resources the use of vacant commercial spaces downtown. The latest space to become vacant is the one recently occupied by Toy Boat Theatre at 1314 Martin Luther King Jr. Way on the Hilltop. Toy Boat completely transformed the space into a lobby, 60-seat theater and rehearsal rooms, with new floors, new paint and a great feel.
Arnold will host her free sessions there. They are open to anyone who wants to read a script, perform an original piece, practice an audition monologue, or do improv and get friendly feedback.
“It’s a great way for us theater folk to meet, greet and play,” said Arnold in an email.
Other future plans include a free family event in early March, and more events serving homeless families in April. There’ll be fairy classes for kids in May or June.
Live Paint workshops are 1-3 p.m. Saturdays beginning Jan. 21. Free. 1314 Martin Luther King Jr. Way, Tacoma. 253-756-2169, livepaint.biz or on Facebook.
