When the city's animal shelter asked for donations of pet food, blankets and other supplies this week to help it care for more than 100 dogs, cats and parakeets brought in over the weekend, the community responded with a bounty.
While Anchorage Animal Care and Control will continue to accept donations, it's now well stocked to take care of all the new arrivals, the shelter said Thursday. Anyone who wants to make a financial donation can do so through Polar Pug Rescue, which has started a donation account to help cover the cost of medical care for the animals, the shelter said.
