WEDNESDAY
• A proposal to excuse students who complete higher-level and focused coursework from the culminating project requirement for high school graduation will have a public hearing. Senate Bill 6323 would also limit school district audits to once every three years, rather than as seen fit by the state auditor. The Early Learning and K-12 Education committee meets at 8 a.m. in Hearing Room 1 of the Cherberg Building.
• There will be a public hearing on a measure to allow the secretary of health to inspect massage businesses. Senate Bill 6104 will be heard at 8 a.m. in Hearing Room 3 of the Cherberg Building by the Health and Long-Term Care committee.
The committee will also have a public hearing for a proposal to register reflexologists, Senate Bill 6103.
• A measure that would require health care facilities to notify patients of specific administrative and operational costs, prior to service, will have a public hearing. House Bill 2582 will be heard at 8 a.m. in Hearing Room B of the O’Brien Building by the Health Care and Wellness committee.
• There will be a public hearing on House Bill 2478, which would create committees at higher-ed institutions to provide student evaluation of programs and projects. The Higher Education committee meets at 8 a.m. in Hearing Room C of the O’Brien Building.
• A public hearing on a proposal to let state agencies review claims of health care related injuries before they go to court will be today. Attorney General Rob McKenna requested House Bill 2690, which would make it easier for public hospitals to settle malpractice claims. The Judiciary committee will meet at 8 a.m. in Hearing Room A of the O’Brien Building.
It will also hear House Bill 2246, which would make Medicaid theft a class B felony.
• Abolishing the death penalty in Washington will have a public hearing at 1:30 p.m. The Judiciary committee will hear Senate Bill 6283 in Hearing Room 1 of the Cherberg Building.
• There will be a public hearing on making a misdemeanor of unlawful ferry conduct, Senate Bill 6245. The Transportation committee will meet at 3:30 p.m. in Hearing Room 1 of the Cherberg Building.
BILL INTRODUCTIONS
• House Bill 2674 would form a board to adopt standards for the care of poultry and livestock.
• If genetic testing shows a man is not the father of a child, House Bill 2683 would allow the termination of his legal responsibility.
