The Board of Directors of the Peninsula School District were the recipients of thanks from Harbor Ridge Middle School students during Thursday evening’s regular board meeting.

Associated Student Body representatives from the middle school were on hand to present a student-produced video, “Harbor Ridge Students Give Thanks to the Peninsula School Board.” Representing the ASB were President Morgan Blalock, Vice President Katherine Daugherty, Treasurer Teagan Horkan, Secretary Emily Waters, Sen. Ben Ramirez (8th grade), Sen. Ally Brown (8th grade) and Sen. Jack Filkins (7th grade).

Before the video was shown, students presented wine glasses etched via sandblasting — and filled with Hershey’s Kisses chocolates — to board members.

The video started off showing students holding up signs for various things they were thankful for, accompanied by “Where Everybody Knows Your Name,” the theme song from the 1980s television sitcom “Cheers” performed by Gary Portnoy. Video narrator Teagan explained all of the benefits of attending Harbor Ridge Middle School before the video concluded with thanks to individual board members with music from the 1980s action adventure television series “The A-Team.”

• Deputy Superintendent Charles Cuzzetto presented members of Peninsula High School’s Employment Training Transition 2 Team —the ETT2 Team — with the Mary Lee Squires Teamwork Award.

The award is named after Mary Lee Squires, a longtime Peninsula School District educator and Gig Harbor resident. It is meant to exemplify Squires’ genuine caring, enthusiasm and positivity when it comes to students, colleagues and community members.

“It’s a very unique award,” Cuzzetto said, describing it as the Cecil B. Demille award of the district due to its rarity.

PHS Principal Tim Winter had high praise for team members Wendy Christiansen, Diane Crooks, Donna Forbes, Tiffany Martinez, Jan Norheim, Michelle Stacey, Angie Wehmeier and Joyce Wilson.

“This is an amazing team,” he said. “These people don’t just do their job. These people live their jobs.”
