Puyallup’s Mackenzie Sheehan is the heart and soul of her basketball team.
The Vikings’ post player is looking forward to getting back on the court after an ankle injury during practice on Dec. 26 kept her on the sidelines for the past eight games.
“I’m definitely nervous, but I can’t wait to get back out there and play again,” she said.
Puyallup and Rogers will renew their crosstown rivalry with a game on Thursday.
“It is a big rivalry game,” Sheehan said. “I hated watching my team lose to them on our home court earlier this year. We want to take them down on their home court.”
Sheehan is the Vikings’ lone senior.
“It’s definitely different being a senior than it is an underclassman,” she said. “My sophomore year, there were nine seniors on the varsity team. I like being a leader, and I’m really close with my teammates.”
The Herald recently asked Sheehan a few questions about her life away from the basketball court.
The Herald: What is your favorite movie of all time?
Mackenzie Sheehan: My favorite movie definitely is “Crazy Stupid Love.” It is super funny and is really cute.
TH: What is your biggest pet peeve?
MS: When people chew with their mouth open. I feel like it’s not classy.
TH: Who was your idol as you grew up?
MS: I would definitely say my mom. She is very successful with business, and I’ve always wanted to go in the same field she does (business marketing).
TH: What is your favorite restaurant in Puyallup?
MS: Mongolian Grill. I definitely love Chinese food.
TH: Where do you see yourself in five years?
MS: I’m going to Eastern Washington University next year, and I will be in the physical therapy program. I’m really interested in it. I hope to see myself working for Apple Physical Therapy and staying in sports within that.
TH: Who was your favorite sports team as you grew up?
MS: The Seattle Mariners.
TH: What would you do if you had $1 million?
MS: I would donate some of it to Puyallup High School for scholarships because, being a senior, I know how hard it is to get scholarships. I would probably spend the other half on helping out around the house. I definitely wouldn’t want to waste it at all, though.
