Residents of certain parts of Auburn will see a change in the company that collects their waste. The citys Solid Waste and Recycling Division reports today that the contracted solid waste hauler, Waste Management, will assume collection and disposal of solid waste on March 1 in the Pierce County annexation area of Auburn, excluding the southeast portion that was annexed in 2005.
At the time this area was annexed into the Auburn, Murreys Disposal had a G-Certificate to operate in the area, the city said in a release today. The law provides that existing franchises are in force for a period of at least seven years following annexation. The franchise period has expired and Murreys Disposal will discontinue service on Feb. 29.
