The Tacoma man who died Tuesday after being shot by a Tacoma police officer in November has been identified.
Austin Welling, 18, died at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, the Pierce County Medical Examiner’s Office reported Thursday. He was shot Nov. 27 during a confrontation with a police officer.
The officer stopped a car shortly before 9:30 p.m. in an alley near East 34th and F streets. The officer was out of his patrol car when Welling put the vehicle in reverse and hit the officer’s car.
The officer was not hurt and fired several shots at the vehicle, wounding Welling, police said.
Police said the car Welling was driving had been reported stolen.
