Restoration work on the Murray Morgan Bridge will require overnight closures of Interstate 705 this week.

The highway will be closed between 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. through Thursday.

Northbound I-705 will be closed tonight. Southbound I-705 will be closed at the same location on Wednedsay and Thursday.

During the northbound closures drivers will be diverted to Pacific Avenue and will be able to reach Schuster Parkway via local streets. During the southbound closure, drivers will be detoured to Pacific Avenue where they can enter the highway.

Crews to close 19th, Kok Road in Lynden for paving

LYNDEN - Crews will close the intersection of 19th Street and Kok Road during the day Wednesday, April 4, for street paving, according to Lynden Public Works.

The closure will occur from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. The closure also will apply to emergency vehicles. A signed detour will be in place.

Whatcom County government offices will be closed Friday, March 16, one of the 10 closure days planned for 2012 to save money.

It's the third of this year's closure days, during which employees will take unpaid furloughs. During the closure, offices will be closed, except for the district and superior courts. The Lummi Island ferry also will operate, and senior centers and parks facilities will operate as usual.

The remaining furlough days this year are April 6, May 25, June 15, July 13, Aug. 31, Sept. 14 and Oct. 5. In all, the county expects to save $719,000 this year through the closures.

Construction on Highway 12 in Burbank continues this week with plans to close one eastbound lane of the highway during daylight hours.

The single-lane closure runs from the Snake River bridge to the Humorist Road intersection.
