Gig Harbor Wine and Food Festival set for July 14

The Gig Harbor Wine and Food Festival is making changes in its evolution with a new date and a new Festival Director. The festival is being moved to July 14 and Victoria Trimmer has been hired to guide the festival as it develops during the third year of the event.

The first annual Gig Harbor Beer Festival — sponsored by Blazing Onion Burger Company — will be held Saturday, May 12, at the Uptown Gig Harbor Pavilion, located at 4701 Pt. Fosdick Dr. NW. Event hours are noon to 7 p.m. and you must be 21 years or older to attend. This new beer-lovers festival will feature local breweries from around the South Puget Sound area pouring their most-coveted drafts, as well music, raffles, prizes, and more. Beer lovers get their day in the sun

There's a new party coming to town, and beer lovers are invited. The cityâ€™s first beer festival, a fundraiser for the Greater Gig Harbor Foundation, will debut Saturday at the Uptown Gig Harbor Shopping Centerâ€™s outdoor pavilion. It will feature specialties from 11 microbreweries, plus recorded music, food and a beer-themed cooking class at Bella Kitchen.

The Gig Harbor Wine and Food Festival is making changes in its evolution with a new date and a new Festival Director. The festival is being moved to July 14 and Victoria Trimmer has been hired to guide the festival as it develops during the third year of the event.

The Harbor Wine and Food Festival will be held once again this year at the Harbor History Museum, located at 4121 Harborview Drive, Gig Harbor. The event is put on by the Gig Harbor Historic Waterfront Association.

Trimmer brings a strong background of wine event experience, including Taste Washington, Auction of Washington Wines, Washington Wines Festival and many community fundraisers featuring fine wine and food.

Major upgrades are being made to the festival website and tickets will go on sale shortly. The festival expects to announce the Celebrity Chef sometime in early March.

The 2011 event included more than two dozen wineries and breweries as well as a wide variety of chefs and restaurants. Friday night wine maker dinners are being added for 2012. More than 700 people enjoyed the festival in 2011, which is a fund raiser for the Gig Harbor Historic Waterfront Association.
