Motum stellar again, leads Cougs over Beavers

Brock Motum had 24 points and nine rebounds to lead Washington State to an 83-73 win against Oregon State on Thursday night in Corvallis, Ore.

D.J. Shelton added 14 points for the Cougars (13-11 overall, 5-7 Pacific-12 Conference), who had lost three of their previous four games.

Jared Cunningham had 33 points and six rebounds for Oregon State (15-9, 5-7).

Washington State led by 15 points at halftime, and stretched the margin to 59-41 on consecutive baskets, the second by Shelton off a steal, with 13:15 remaining.

The Beavers got as close as nine in the closing minutes.

Washington State shot 52 percent (28-of-54) from the field, while Oregon State shot 37 percent (22-of-59).

At Arizona 71, Colorado 57: Jessie Perry scored 13 of his 17 points in the second half, Solomon Hill had 16 points and 14 rebounds, and the Wildcats wore down the Buffaloes (16-8, 8-4).

Arizona (17-8, 8-4) labored for stretches offensively, but played solid defense throughout to keep itself within reach of the Pac-12 lead.

Cal 75, at USC 49: Harper Kamp scored 19 points on 9-of-11 shooting and Allen Crabbe had 18 on 8-of-12 accuracy and the Golden Bears cruised over the Trojans (6-19, 1-11).

Cal, the Pac-12’s top-shooting team, shot 55.7 percent from the floor.

Justin Cobbs scored 10 points and freshman David Kravish grabbed a season-high 18 rebounds for the Golden Bears (19-6, 9-3).

At UCLA 72, Stanford 61: Lazeric Jones scored 21 points and the Bruins pulled away with a late 10-0 run to beat the Cardinal, extending Stanford’s winless streak in Los Angeles.

Travis Wear added 13 points and Jerime Anderson 12 for the Bruins (14-10, 7-5), who improved to 11-3 at home and have won four of their past five overall.

Stanford (16-8, 6-6) hasn’t won a road game against the Bruins or Southern California since 2004-05, going 0 for 13 in that stretch.

Chasson Randle was the only Stanford player in double figures, with 16 points. The Cardinal committed 22 turnovers, leading to 28 points for UCLA.

WOMEN

At UW 72, Oregon 69: Jazmine Davis led all scorers with 27 points, helping the Huskies hang on for a win over the Ducks.

Regina Rogers added 15 points and 10 rebounds for Washington (13-9, 5-7), and Kellie McCann-Smith scored 12 points.

Amanda Johnson led Oregon (13-11, 5-7) with 26 points and 12 rebounds.

The Ducks were down three points with 4.5 seconds remaining and Washington’s Mollie Williams at the free-throw line. Williams missed both free throws but scrambled back to steal the ball from Oregon’s Danielle Love before the Ducks could take a shot.

Oregon State 51, at WSU 39: Thais Pinto scored 12 points and the Beavers defeated the Cougars despite 1-of-24 shooting from 3-point range.

Sage Indendi added 10 points for the Beavers (16-7, 7-5), who shot 32 percent overall from the floor.

Sage Romberg led Washington State (10-14, 4-8) with 11 points and 11 rebounds.

At No. 4 Stanford 69, USC 52: Chiney Ogwumike had 21 points, 12 rebounds and a career-high six blocked shots as the Cardinal extended its school-record home winning streak at Maples Pavilion to 75 with a win over the Trojans (12-11, 6-6).

Older sister Nnemkadi Ogwumike added 22 points and eight rebounds for Stanford (21-1, 12-0).

ELSEWHERE

Michelle Plouffe scored 14 points and Rachel Messer added 11 as Utah (11-12, 4-8) defeated Arizona State (15-8, 6-6) at home, 50-46, holding off a late Sun Devils rally. … Chucky Jeffery had 21 points and five assists to lead Colorado at home past Arizona (13-11, 2-10), 69-59. Jeffery had a career-high five 3-pointers. Brittany Wilson added 12 points and Jasmine Sborov had 10 points and seven rebounds for the Buffaloes (16-7, 5-7). … Reshanda Gray scored 13 of her 17 points in the second half to jump-start Cal (18-6, 9-3) and key a 67-58 victory at home over UCLA (12-11, 7-5).
