A family of five was able to escape a fire in its Kennewick home early Friday without injury.

The fire broke out at 1:30 a.m. at 1213 W. First Street. Two adults and three children were inside sleeping when neighbors discovered the house was on fire, said Kennewick Fire Marshal Mark Yaden.

The family was awoken by neighbors and police officers at the scene.

Kennewick firefighters, with help from the Pasco Fire Department and Benton Fire District 1, were able to quickly contain the blaze.

Officials suspect the fire started around the circuit panel, got into a wall and went up to the attic, but the cause still is under investigation, Yaden said.

The family is not able to stay in the house because of the damage to the wiring system, Yaden said.
