  Mid-Columbia food banks are continuing to see steady demand and dwindling stocks of non-perishable food, local nonprofit officials said.

  But now is the first time the local Salvation Army hasn't had enough food to meet the need.

  "This is the first time we've been very short -- low on inventory for the food bank," said Maj. Julio Vasquez of the Salvation Army chapter serving Benton and Franklin counties.

  Teenage members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will be going door to door today requesting items to replenish the shelves of the Tri-Cities Food Bank.

  They will be in the Hansen Park neighborhoods in southwest Kennewick and in neighborhoods near the Mormon temple on Gage Boulevard in Richland.

  Items needed are: laundry detergent, toilet paper, paper towels, tissues, toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, shampoo and conditioner, shaving cream, razors, lotion, cotton balls, cotton swabs, diapers, female hygiene products, baby lotion, diapers, diaper cream, combs school supplies or any other non-food item.

  PROSSER -- All of Prosser's March utility billings to water and sewer customers are mistakenly marked as being past due.

  The city recently updated its utility billing statements, which created the error, said Toni Yost, Prosser's finance manager.

  Because of the mistake, many of Prosser's utility customers will be receiving past due messages that aren't deserved.
