  HERMISTON -- A military ceremony is planned at 6 p.m. Thursday to celebrate the destruction of all chemical weapons stored at the Umatilla Chemical Depot.

  The public is invited to the event, which is planned by the Army, the depot and the Umatilla Chemical Agent Disposal Facility to show its appreciation to workers and nearby communities.

  Army leaders and project partners will speak, and displays will cover the history of the storage and then incineration of chemical weapons.

  Administrator is named Hermiston High principal

  HERMISTON -- Hermiston High's assistant principal has received endorsement from an interview committee to serve as the school's principal.

  Feedback from a community forum as well as the conclusion of a 13-member interview team overwhelmingly supported Jocelyn Jones as principal.

  Her recommendation has been accepted by Interim Superintendent Wade Smith and will become official at the May school board meeting.
