So, just how is Ivan doing these days?
Former B&I attraction: Gorilla lives on at Zoo Atlanta
Last updated: February 19th, 2012 08:37 AM (PST)

After nearly 30 years on display at Tacoma’s B&I – and with the store under pressure from animal-rights activists – Ivan the Gorilla was moved to Zoo Atlanta. The News Tribune contacted Keisha Hines, director of public relations and communications at the zoo, for an update.

Her report:

“Ivan is doing very well here at Zoo Atlanta. He will celebrate 18 years with us this October. Ivan will also be turning 50 this year, an impressive milestone for a (male) gorilla! Since Ivan has been at Zoo Atlanta he has lived successfully with several female gorillas, though he has never produced any offspring. He has enjoyed their company and also enjoys watching the other gorilla groups and visitors alike. Ivan can usually be seen in his habitat on nice sunny days sitting at the top of the hill looking out over the zoo. He still enjoys painting and his artwork has many admirers. We hope that Ivan celebrates many more milestones here at Zoo Atlanta.”
