The Thurston County Sheriffs Office is looking for leads after a woman was assaulted and nearly abducted near Yelm Monday night.
Police say the 21-year-old woman was walking in the 16400 block of Railway Road S.E. at 10:50 p.m. just outside of Yelm when a man driving a pickup truck asked if she wanted a ride.
When she refused, the man driving the truck jumped out and tried to force the woman into the truck. The woman fought back and was physically assaulted, suffering minor visible injuries.
The man got back into the truck and left driving at a high rate of speed. He is described as a white man in his early 30s with a goatee and mustache, dirty blond or light brown hair with a salt and pepper look to it.
The man had crooked teeth and was wearing a plaid shirt. The woman told police he smelled strongly of alcohol.
The man was last seen driving an older black or dark blue pickup truck, possibly a Ford F150.
Anyone with information about the attempted abduction or suspect is asked to call the Thurston County Sheriffs Office at 360-786-5500, 360-740-2740 or Crime Stoppers at 360-493-2222.
