Occupy protesters, who have left a Tacoma park, were respectful in their use of the park and in their dealing with staff members of the state Department of Transportation, which owns the park on Pacific Avenue, DOT spokeswoman Lisa Copeland said Monday. “We’re appreciative that it didn’t come to a showdown,” she said.
The Transportation Department issued an eviction notice Thursday, giving campers until Sunday afternoon to leave Don Pugnetti Park at Pacific Avenue and South 21st Street. Copeland said the protesters left minimal belongings behind.
The Occupy movement claimed the park in mid-October.
