The process to set new toll rates to cross the Tacoma Narrows Bridge is entering the final stretch.
The Washington State Transportation Commission has announced its schedule for setting new tolls on the eastbound span. The bridge’s citizen advisory committee recommended new rates last week.
The recommendation is for Good to Go! electronic tolls to increase by 90 cents to $3.65; cash tolls to increase by $1 to $5; and pay-by-mail tolls to increase by $1.50 to $7.
The state commission can set different rates than the citizen committee recommended.
The citizen committee will present its recommendation at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the state’s transportation headquarters, 310 Maple Park Ave. S.E. in Olympia. The meeting is open to the public.
The commission will then hold three 6 p.m. public hearings:
• April 18 at Port Orchard City Hall, 216 Prospect St.
• April 19 at the Gig Harbor Civic Center, 3510 Grandview St.
• May 21 again at the Gig Harbor Civic Center.
The commission will adopt new rates at the May 21 meeting.
The new tolls will take effect July 1.
The commission also will hear information about problems in changing over to a new tolling contractor last year, which led to the dismissal of tens of thousands of infractions.
