An anonymous donor has given the City of Tacoma money to clean the Tacoma Dome roof.

The donation covers up to $103,835 and the work must be completed by May 8, city spokesman Rob McNair-Huff said Tuesday.

Crews will begin cleaning Monday. They were atop the roof Tuesday checking on rigging that will be needed during the cleaning process. The work will be done by Pioneer Masonry, the same contractor that last did the cleaning in 2003.

“The Dome is one of our most prominent landmarks, and it is a testament to the people of Tacoma that someone cares so deeply about this community to step up and make this donation,” Mayor Marilyn Strickland said.
