2 teens from Washington earn science camp trip

High school seniors Laura Kostad of Orting High School and Anna Schilter of Toutle Lake High School were selected to represent Washington at the National Youth Science Camp.

High school seniors Laura Kostad of Orting High School and Anna Schilter of Toutle Lake High School were selected to represent Washington at the National Youth Science Camp.

Delegates to the science camp are challenged to explore new areas in the biological and physical sciences, art and music with resident staff members.

  • Hanford High takes top honors at science bowl

    Hanford High School came out on top at the Department of Energy's Regional Science Bowl at Washington State University Tri-Cities on Saturday.

    The members of Hanford's winning team are Sriram Katipamula, Chenguang Li, Sathvik Ramanan, Sean Thompson and Jonah Bartrand.

    They went up against Yakima's West Valley High School in the final round, who for the second year, took second place. Another team from Hanford took third place with Woodinville High School out of Seattle placing fourth.

Lizotte, a student at Kamiakin High School in Kennewick and at Tri-Tech, participated in the first MAGIC Camp and was volunteering this year to share her love of welding. The four-day camp concludes on Thursday and featured hands-on introductions to various careers in construction. Knight is a student at Delta High School in Richland and Bagwell is a student at Othello High School.

  • Bill would encourage Advanced Placement computer science classes

    Washington's high school students may have a greater incentive to take Advanced Placement computer science courses in the future, which state lawmakers hope will spur more school districts to offer the classes.

  • Pasco school planning science night event

    Virgie Robinson Elementary in Pasco is sponsoring a SciFair Science Night from 5:30 to 7 p.m. tonight, Feb. 7, featuring science presentations and hands-on activities.

    Students from Chiawana, Pasco and Delta high schools will present, along with local organizations, including Franklin PUD and Boise Cascade.

    The event is open to the public. The school is at 125 S. Wehe Ave..

  • 29 Pierce County schools win award

    A total of 381 schools are recipients of the Washington Achievement Award for 2012, including 29 from Pierce County.
