Landon Donovan and David Beckham scored goals and Los Angeles beat the Portland Timbers, 3-1, on Saturday night in Carson, Calif., snapping the Galaxy’s two-game losing skid.
Juninho scored the go-ahead goal in the 83rd minute for the defending champion Galaxy (2-3), which had struggled in the season’s early going.
Kris Boyd scored goal for Portland (1-4-1), which lost its fourth straight.
Juninho broke a deadlock when he won a loose ball outside the box. The Brazilian unleashed a strike from 23 yards out that never got more than a few inches off the ground and nestled into the left corner of the net.
Beckham followed it with his first goal of the season, from long range, and then went sliding into the corner area to celebrate.
Philadelphia 1, at Columbus 0: Gabriel Gomez scored on a penalty kick in the 38th minute and the Union beat the Crew (2-3).
After Columbus’ Eric Gehrig was whistled for a handball in the penalty box, Gomez converted and the Union (1-3-1) held on for its first victory this season.
D.C. United 2, at New England 1: Chris Pontius curled a shot off the left wing into the far right corner in the 82nd minute, his first goal of the season, to lead United (2-2-2).
New England (2-4) had a six-match (5-0-1) unbeaten streak against D.C. United snapped. D.C. United is unbeaten in four matches, during which it has allowed two goals.
Chivas USA 1, at Toronto FC 0: Oswaldo Minda scored in the first half to give Chivas USA (3-3) a victory that extended Toronto’s season-opening losing streak to a franchise-worst five games. Toronto (0-5) has yet to win or draw, score at home or hold a lead this season.
San Jose 2, at New York 2: Chris Wondolowski scored a goal for the Earthquakes (4-1-1), Kenny Cooper had one for the Red Bulls (3-2-1) and the two kept pace with Thierry Henry atop the MLS scoring list. The Red Bulls are unbeaten in their past four matches.
At Sporting Kansas City 1, Real Salt Lake 0: Aurelien Collin scored on a 63rd-minute header, and Kansas City (6-0-0) continued the best start in team history.
At FC Dallas 2, Montreal 1: FC Dallas (3-2-1) got another late goal, this time from Brek Shea in the 88th minute to win. Montreal (1-5-1) scored the game’s first goal in the 61st minute, but Dallas tied it in the 77th on Blas Perez’s team-leading third goal.
