Friends and family of Susan Cox Powell have formed a committee to create a pair of memorials to the missing Utah mother and her two sons.
The Susan, Charlie and Braden Memorial Committee was announced Monday with a goal of raising money and establishing the memorials.
The committee also requested proposals for artists to create memorials and for land in West Valley City, Utah where Powell lived with her family and disappeared and in Puyallup, the hometown of Susan and her husband, Josh.
In West Valley City, Kiirsi Hellewell, a friend of Susan Powells who announced the committee and proposals, said she hopes public land can be donated, perhaps in a park or at a library. The call for proposals says the memorial should be 10 feet by 10 feet or 12 feet by 12 feet.
Hellewell estimated materials and landscaping for the memorials would total $150,000. The committee is planning fundraisers, she said.
The committee wants a sculpture of Susan Powell and her deceased sons, 7-year-old Charlie and 5-year-old Braden. The request for proposals calls for something uplifting that also will call attention to violence and abuse.
We hope it will be more universal to the women and kids that suffer these things, Hellewell said.
Susan Powell disappeared Dec. 6, 2009. She remains missing, though friends and family assume she is dead. Josh Powell was the only person of interest police named in her disappearance. On Feb. 5, he killed his sons at his Graham-area home, then killed himself.
