Sen. Majority Leader Lisa Brown says she’s not running for re-election and will leave her Senate seat after her term expires at the end of the year. The Spokane Democrat says after 20 years in the Legislature she is ready to move on.
Brown says that she’ll continue her part-time position teaching classes at Gonzaga University in Spokane, but otherwise is going to “wait and see what comes along.”
She says she’s not running for any other office.
Brown has served as Senate majority leader for eight years, and before that she was minority leader for two years. Before that, she served in the House. She is the second female majority leader in the Senate. The first was Republican Jeannette Hayner of Walla Walla, who retired in 1992 and died in 2010.
