ON THE ROAD Viking Fest

When: May 18-20

Where: Multiple locations in downtown Poulsbo

What is it: Viking Fest is a family-oriented celebration of “Little Norway’s” Norwegian heritage. It has entertainment at Kvelstad Pavilion, a Saturday parade, a recreation of a Viking Village, a road race, pancake breakfast, lutefisk-eating contest, a carnival with rides and a paddleboard race in Liberty Bay. Proceeds from the event help fund four $1,000 scholarships.

Highlights: Opening ceremonies will be at 4 p.m. May 18 at Kvelstad Pavilion in Muriel Iverson Williams Waterfront Park. The 35th annual Viking Fest road race will start at 7:30 p.m. May 19. There will be a five- and one-mile race, as well as a kids dash. The 43rd annual parade will be at 2 p.m. on May 19.

Pancake breakfast: Presented by the Poulsbo Lions, it will be served 7 a.m.-1 p.m. May 19-20 at North Kitsap High School.

Shuttle buses: To avoid parking woes in the downtown area, visitors can take shuttles buses from parking lots at Poulsbo Elementary, North Kitsap junior high and high schools, as well as the Guesthouse Inn & Suites. The cost is $2 round trip per person, ages 5 and up.
