National Merit $2,500 Scholarship winners were recently announced by National Merit Scholarship Corporation. The designees were selected from a pool of 15,000 finalists.
Local winners are: Heather Odell, Auburn Mountainview High; Jasper Vaughn, Gig Harbor High; Kami Bates, Northwest Christian High in Lacey; Brian Pinkard, Puyallup High; Anthony Wohns, Charles Wright Academy; and Austin Rodgers, Curtis High.
The National Merit Scholarship Corporation recently named the first group of winners in the National Merit Scholarship Program. Approximately 1,000 high school seniors won corporate-sponsored awards financed by about 200 corporations and other business organizations.
The National Merit Scholarship Corporation has announced national winners of its Achievement Scholarship awards for black students. These awards, totaling over $2 million, are financed by grants from 34 corporate organizations and professional associations, and by National Merit Scholarship Corporation.
Mackenzie Dowd is a role model on and off the field. A top academic, she also is a star athlete who leads by example. As Dowd has maintained a 3.99 grade-point average, she has excelled in soccer, participated in several clubs and devoted time to volunteer service.
Anna Mikkelborg is a top scholar who has pursued several creative passions. A talented vocalist, she performed with several groups, been involved with community service and sports.
Kristen East has been a star for Gig Harbor High School's speech and debate team. After she joined the team when she was a freshman, she embraced ambitious plans to compete in the most challenging events.
