Kenny Cooper scored his eighth goal of the season, and the injury-riddled New York Red Bulls beat the Houston Dynamo, 1-0, on Wednesday in Harrison, N.J., for their third straight victory.
The Red Bulls have won six of their past eight games to improve to 6-3-1.
New York star Thierry Henry, the team leader with nine goals, sat out his second straight game because of a strained right hamstring.
Houston dropped to 2-3-2. The Dynamo ended a seven-game trip as the team prepares to open its new stadium.
Real Salt Lake 0, at Fire 0: Backup goaltender Kyle Reynish made two key saves to help Real Salt Lake tie Chicago in Bridgeview, Ill.
With a point for the tie, Salt Lake (7-3-2) took the Western Conference lead — a point ahead of San Jose (7-2-1) and Seattle (7-1-1), both of which have played fewer games.
Reynish, seeing his first action of the season, started with regular keeper Nick Rimando sidelined by a right shoulder injury. Rimando is expected back Saturday against Seattle.
Sean Johnson picked up his first shutout of the season for Chicago (3-2-3).
