Art doesn’t have to mean paid museum admission. Galleries and studio tours are always free, offering art you might not see elsewhere; outdoor murals are always on view; and the third Thursday ArtWalks in Tacoma offer free entry to its museums.
Here are three ways to check out free art this week:
The Enumclaw Artist’s Studio Tour runs Saturday, with area studios open to the public for sales, conversation and snacks. The Arts Alive Gallery in Enumclaw will be open with artist demonstrations all day. The studio tour is 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday. Tacoma’s outdoor murals are an ongoing project by the city Arts Commission to beautify neighborhoods and decrease illegal graffiti. The bonus is that they offer great art for free all the time. Check out the Arts Commission’s website for details and maps: tacomaculture.org/art/murals.asp. You also can find community murals in the Proctor and Ruston shopping districts.
Tacoma’s ArtWalk happens the third Thursday of each month with gallery openings and free admission to the Tacoma Art Museum (1701 Pacific Ave.), Museum of Glass (1801 Dock St.), Washington State History Museum (1911 Pacific Ave.) and LeMay Car Museum (325 152nd St. E.).
