The man who died Saturday after his raft overturned on the Green River near Black Diamond has been identified as Everett City Councilman Drew Nielson, according to KIRO-TV.

The King County Medical Examiner’s Office said it will not release or confirm the man’s name until they complete an autopsy today.

Nielson, 61, was rafting with his wife and at least one other person when the raft flipped over in the fast-moving current about 2:30 p.m.

The other rafters tried to rescue Nielson, but his life jacket was ripped off and he was carried downstream. His body was found about 6 p.m.
