Tacoma police were searching Wednesday for an armed man who robbed a South Tacoma convenience store.

The man entered the 7-Eleven at 4701 S. Oakes St. just before 2:50 a.m. He pulled a gun and demanded cash from the clerk, police spokesman Mark Fulghum said. The robber grabbed some cash, put it into his pocket and left.

Officers responded to the scene. A police dog tried to track the robber’s scent but didn’t find him, Fulghum said.

The robber was described as a black man in his 20s, between 6 feet and 6 feet 4 inches and with a slight build. He wore a black hat, black jacket, black pants and black shoes.

Officers were working to get surveillance footage from the store to help in the investigation.
