Local art groups are good sources for free and interesting things to do in the South Sound. This week, the Peninsula Art League presents artist Jacqui Beck demonstrating painting techniques Tuesday evening in Gig Harbor and, on Thursday evening, the Telephone Room Gallery sponsors free entry to Tacoma Art Museum.

The Peninsula Art League is a group of local artists that meets monthly to organize art demonstrations as well as exhibits. Beck will demonstrate multiple uses of acrylic paints and products, including collage, under-painting and layering techniques that bring more life and expression to paintings.

The demonstration runs 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at Cottesmore Care, 2909 14th Ave. N.W., Gig Harbor. 253-857-0543, jacquibeck.com, peninsulaartleague.com

Then Thursday, the Telephone Room Gallery is the latest in a number of local organizations to sponsor free entry to TAM in conjunction with the exhibit “Hide/Seek.” There also will be live music by The Bran Flakes.

Free admission runs 5-8 p.m. Thursday at the museum, 1701 Pacific Ave., Tacoma. 253-272-4258, taco maartmuseum.org, the telephoneroom.blogspot. com.

The Pacific Gallery Artists is another nonprofit group of local artists offering regular demonstrations. They meet at 7 p.m. the second Tuesday of the month and usually have an artist demonstration or hands-on project.

Their next gathering, a potluck, is at 7 p.m. June 12 at 4851 South Tacoma Way, Tacoma, pacificgallery artists.org
