Pierce County Jail officials Thursday were investigating the death of a 45-year-old inmate as an apparent suicide.
Corrections officers responded to a medical emergency call about 3:15 p.m. Wednesday and found the man in his cell with a sheet around his neck, sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer said. Efforts to revive him failed.
Lakewood police booked the man into jail Sunday on suspicion of drunken driving, obstructing a police officer, driving with a suspended license and drug-related charges. He also had an immigration hold, Troyer said.
The man was in a cell by himself and had not shown any signs of being suicidal, Troyer added.
