Like Bauer, Hultzen could be next in line for a promotion to the PCL.
The left-hander has strung together two straight outstanding starts for Double-A Jackson – his two best starts of the season.
After delivering seven shutout innings on May 11, he went seven innings on Thursday against Mobile, giving up three hits and one run. He has allowed five hits and one run in his past 14 innings, dropping his ERA to 1.81 – second best in the Southern League, behind Bauer.
Hultzen’s start Thursday was supposed to be head-to-head against Bauer, but Bauer was scratched for the promotion to Reno.
Mike Curto is the radio broadcaster for the Tacoma Rainiers.
