Tacoma Fire Department units responded to a pair of fires on Saturday evening, one at a commercial facility at the Port of Tacoma and the other at an East Side residence.

Tacoma Fire Battalion Chief Dale Vaughn reported late Saturday that the first fire was reported at 6:15 p.m. at a lumber yard at the Simpson-Kraft mill at 901 E. 11th St.

Units remained at the scene until after 9:00 p.m. fighting a fire comprising material from a conveyor belt, Vaughn said.

The second fire, in a two-story residence at 2019 E. 38th St., was reported at 8:31 p.m.

“There was a large amount of fire showing when we arrived,” Vaughn said. The home was occupied, he said.

No injuries were reported in either blaze. No damage estimates or causes were available.
