On the road for May 20: Dam light show

What: Laser light show at Grand Coulee Dam

When: 10 p.m. nightly, starting May 26; in August the show starts at 9 p.m. and at 8:30 p.m. in September. The shows conclude on Sept. 30.

Where: Grand Coulee Dam, Coulee City

What it’s about: See the story of the mighty Columbia River unfold as brilliant lasers shine on the face of the biggest screen in the world, the dam itself.

Good places to watch: Among the best places to watch the 36-minute show are below the visitors arrival center; you can see and hear the show from the landscaped bleachers on the east side of the bridge; Douglas Park on the right side of Columbia Avenue two blocks past the visitors center in the town of Coulee Dam; the Third Power House parking area east across bridge; and Crown Point Vista, one mile off State Route 174 West (Milepost 19.5).

Other weekend events: The Washington State Bass Anglers Sportsman Society fishing tournament will take place on Banks Lake May 26-28; 509-633-2671. The Isle of Flags will commemorate those who have served the country, Spring Canyon Cemetery, State Route 174E. There will be a dedication at 11 a.m. May 31. The Veteran’s Breakfast will be held 6-11 a.m. May 26 and 28, Veterans’ Hall, State Route 155, Electric City.

Cost: The laser show is free.
