Prep Zone: High school highlights for May 19

SATURday’s highlights

Fife throttled Squalicum, 4-1, in the 2A soccer state quarterfinals. The Trojans advance to the semifinals, where they’ll meet Tumwater on Friday at Sunset Chev Stadium in Sumner.

Jordan Kollars’ goal in the 50th minute lifted Central Kitsap to a 1-0 win over Issaquah and sent the Cougars to the state semifinals for the first time.

Mitch Stewart of Federal Way beat Skyview’s Kent Andreasen, 6-0, 6-3, in the finals of the 4A West Central/Southwest bi-district boys tennis singles tournament. Reigning 4A doubles state champions John Stormans and Hunter Wood of Olympia beat Kentwood’s Alex Noyes and Paul Lennick, 6-7 (5), 6-1, 6-1, in the doubles finals. Union claimed the boys team title.

The 4A bi-district girls tennis singles finals was an all-Clark County match as Skyview’s Sammi Hampton beat Union’s Jelena Vidovic, 6-0, 6-4. Kentridge’s Kyana Esber and Katelyn Overland claimed the doubles title, beating Kentwood’s Tess Manthou and Maddie Belmondo, 2-6, 6-2, 6-4.

Peninsula’s baseball season came to an end in the first round of the state playoffs when the Seahawks lost to Mount Si, 2-1. Jake Richards singled home Kory Vanderstaay in the sixth for Peninsula’s only run.

W.F. West lost to Lynden, 1-0, in the 2A baseball state quarterfinals. The Bearcats beat Bellingham in the first round, 6-4.

Charles Wright sprinter Alex Moore won the 100 and 200 meters at the 1A boys tri-district meet, helping the Tarriers win the team title. Meridian’s Denver VanderYacht won the javelin, shot put and discus.

Orting’s Savannah Burr won the long jump and triple jump and teammate Mykaelynn Powers was first in the shot put and discus as the Cardinals finished second to King’s, 106-100, at the 1A girls tri-district meet.
