Rainier City Council passes law aimed at curbing underage drinking

BRIAN SANDFORD

A law aimed at curbing underage drinking in the City of Rainier takes effect June 21. According to a news release from Together:

The Rainier City Council passed Ordinance 607, which holds property owners, renters and leasers responsible for underage drinking occurring on the premises. Violators will be fined.

“This isn’t just about enforcement; it’s about educating our community that there is never a safe time for minors to consume alcohol,” Rainier Mayor Randy Schleis said.

Planning partners and supporters include Together, Target Zero Thurston, the Rainier Community Coalition, the state Coalition to Reduce Underage Drinking and the state Division of Behavioral Health & Recovery.
