A Bremerton-based boatbuilding company will open a new boatyard at the Port of Tacoma to build five 78-foot patrol boats for the Navy. Safe Boats International announced late Thursday that it will produce the boats under a $35 million contract. The company will construct the craft in a former shipyard once used to build aircraft carriers and other vessels during World War II. The site is located between the Blair and the Hylebos waterways on Commencement Bay. Safe Boats said it plans a job fair soon to hire workers for the new site.
