Holiday traffic heats up at Sea-Tac
Last updated: May 25th, 2012 12:30 AM (PDT)

Sea-Tac Airport was bracing for an influx of holiday travelers Thursday and today as the summer travel season bolts out of the gate.

The airport says it’s expecting about 95,000 travelers in the two days, about 6,000 more than the average day during the year.

Those crowds, however, are just a rehearsal for the summer crush of travelers who will use the airport’s gates and counters.

During the three summer months of June, July and August, the airport will handle about 100,000 passengers daily. The busiest days of the year are expected to be Aug. 12 and 13, not the pre-Thanksgiving or pre- Christmas days most of us assume are the busiest, said Sea-Tac spokesman Perry Cooper. Some 105,000 passengers will pass through the airport on those days.

Cooper says the summer vacation season and cruise ship passengers departing from Seattle are big factors in increasing summertime crowds. Through April, airport passenger traffic is up 2.8 percent.
