Boat first-aid course offered in Gig Harbor

Washington Sea Grant and the Gig Harbor BoatShop at the Eddon Boatyard are holding a first-aid at sea course for recreational boaters and commercial fishermen.

Washington Sea Grant and the Gig Harbor BoatShop at the Eddon Boatyard are holding a first-aid at sea course for recreational boaters and commercial fishermen.

Topics to be covered during the Coast Guard-approved course include cardiopulmonary resuscitation, patient assessment, hypothermia, shock, trauma, burns, fractures, choking and first-aid kits.

The course will be 8 a.m.-4 p.m. June 8 at Gig Harbor BoatShop, 3805 Harborview Drive, Gig Harbor.

The fee is $80 ($40 for active commercial fishermen). Registration in advance is required.

The class, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., will cover topics that include cardio-pulmonary resuscitation, hypothermia, cold-water near-drowning, first aid kits and more.
