Mountain bikers celebrate sport

Mountain bikers from across the region will gather next week for the Evergreen Mountain Bike Alliance’s Evergreen Mountain Bike Festival and Summit Ridge BikePalooza.

The festival includes rides, a technical skills challenge, kids’ race, more than 30 vendor booths, free demos, music, food and more. There also will be trails and a freeride park open.

The 3-day event officially kicks off June 8 at King County’s Duthie bike park in Issaquah with a volunteer appreciation celebration from 6-9 p.m., featuring live music and food. The alliance also will be sharing information about its recent and upcoming projects, as well as information for those interested in volunteering.

The festival continues at Duthie Hill Park on June 9 with a full day of demos, raffles, races, huck competitons and events for kids and adults. The races include a cross-country time trial and a dual slalom.

This a chance for mountain bikers of all experiences and skill levels to explore the state’s biggest mountain bike park and the trails in the Black Diamond-Issaquah area.

Proceeds from the event will help the alliance’s future trail building and maintenance projects. The alliance, with more than 6,000 followers, created the Colonnade and Duthie Hill mountain bike parks. As the state’s largest mountain bike organization, it is dedicated to trail building and maintenance, advocacy and education.
