A 27-year-old burglary suspect fleeing from Lakewood police crashed his SUV into a house Tuesday afternoon and forced his way inside before being arrested.
The incident started about 2:50 p.m. when officers investigating a burglary went looking for the suspect, who Assistant Chief Mike Zaro said police were familiar with because of man’s extensive criminal history.
The suspect also had a warrant out for his arrest from the state Department of Corrections for allegedly escaping from community custody.
“They’re looking for him for all those reasons, and he’s driving around in a big red Suburban, so he’s not hard to spot,” Zaro said.
After a three-minute chase, the suspect lost control of the SUV, which struck a garage in the 11600 block of Holden Road. Once the SUV came to a stop, the suspect forced his way into the house, sending at least two adults and a small child fleeing outside.
The suspect then jumped out of a back window and ran away. A patrol officer quickly caught him and took him into custody.
