Pierce County prosecutors have filed charges against a 22-year-old Eatonville man after he allegedly robbed two people at gunpoint Friday.
Robert Gary Ward was arraigned Tuesday on one count of first-degree robbery and ordered held in the Pierce County Jail in lieu of $75,000 bail.
According to court documents, the victims told Tacoma police they’d pulled over to rearrange items in their back seat when a man, later identified as Ward, approached and asked for a light. The male victim got a lighter and when he turned back around, the robber pointed a gun in his face.
The robber demanded cash and threatened to take the car. The victim and his girlfriend handed over the cash they had, and the robber ran down the street and got into a truck.
The victim and his girlfriend followed the truck and called 911. Officers found the truck a short time later and arrested Ward. He said the victim had given him money and a gun to buy drugs.
“Officers could see cash in the car, including some $100 bills,” court documents state.
