Tacoma driver charged with causing Saturday wreck

Pierce County prosecutors have charged a 20-year-old woman with causing a wreck that injured another driver Saturday.

Sylola C. Cloud of Tacoma was arraigned Tuesday on vehicular assault and failure to remain at the scene of an injury accident. She was ordered held in the Pierce County Jail on $25,000 bail.

Charging documents gave this account:

Witnesses reported that a Lincoln Mark VII rear-ended a Kia Spectra just after 6:30 a.m. at South 48th and South M streets. A third car was hit and went up onto a sidewalk. The occupants of the Lincoln got out and left.

Firefighters freed the Kia driver, who was taken to St. Joseph Medical Center for treatment.

Police spotted a woman matching the description of the Lincoln’s driver running east through yards in the 5000 block of South J Street. Officers arrested the woman after finding her hiding near a home.

The woman, later identified as Cloud, said she thought she’d killed the other driver. Officers noted a strong smell of alcohol on her breath. Asked how much she’d had to drink, Cloud responded, “too much.”

Officers found a passenger who’d also run from the Lincoln. He was booked on an outstanding warrant.
