Two Tacoma teens were arrested on suspicion of first-degree murder after Tacoma police responded to a bizarre death investigation late Friday.
A woman who lives in the 800 block of East 52nd Street went to a nearby police substation about 4 p.m. to report finding a body in her house, police spokesman Mark Fulghum said. It was unclear why she went in person instead of calling 911.
Officers followed her home to investigate. When they arrived, the body had been moved.
“When mom came back with the officers, the body was in a recycling bin outside,” Fulghum said.
The only people inside the house when officers arrived were the woman’s two teenage sons, he said.
Police still were trying to identify the dead person Friday evening. He appeared to be in his teens, Fulghum said. The cause of death was unclear.
Officers took the woman and her sons to police headquarters for questioning, then arrested the two sons. Other details remained sketchy late Friday.
“No motive; don’t know what the problem was, what the issue was,” Fulghum said.
There were no calls to police regarding gunshots or other disturbances at the house, Fulghum added.
By 8 p.m., detectives and a forensics crew had obtained the mother’s consent to search the house so they could examine the scene more closely.
