 • The Habitat Restoration Event at Skookum Wulge and Sqally Beach. The work is from 9:30 a.m.-2:30 today at the Skookum Wulge Restoration Site, 4610 Marine View Drive, Tacoma. 253-383-2429, healthybay.org.

 • Reptiles are cold-blooded and full of scales, see and learn all about them at the Emerald City Reptile Expo. Hours are 10 a.m.-6 p.m. today and 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Sunday at The Exhibition Hall at Seattle Center, 301 Mercer Street, Seattle. Admission is $10 a day.  • With a history steeped in the water, boating and everything related, the Maritime Gig Festival celebrates those roots at its annual festival featuring the Fun Run, the Kiwanis Pancake Breakfast, the Grand Parade, the Round Rock Contest, music and entertainment, food vendors, historic boat displays, and loads of children’s activities. Hours are 8 a.m.-9 tonight and 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Sunday in historic downtown Gig Harbor. Admission is free.

    The Tri-City Americans will be holding book drives at three upcoming games.

    Fans who donate new or gently used books at games today, Feb. 8 and March 8 will receive a raffle ticket for a chance to win a Nook Color.

    The books will be given to the Children's Reading Foundation of the Mid-Columbia to help local children in need.

  • Trucking fleet to include photos of missing Oregon boy

    Gordon Trucking will add another missing child's photo to its fleet of trucks -- a boy who went missing near Portland in 2010.

    There are 16 children's photos from Washington and Oregon featured on the trucks, including Sofia Juarez of Kennewick, who has been missing since 2003.

    She vanished the day before her fifth birthday when she went to a store near her Kennewick home.

  • Registration starts today for all-day kindergarten in Tacoma schools

    Tacoma Public Schools will begin the registration for all-day kindergarten beginning today for children who are 5 years old on or before Aug. 31. Parents can contact their school of choice for enrollment. A birth certificate and proof of immunization are required at the time of registration.
