One person was shot and injured Saturday at a Spanaway event for a bike club that raises money to support the families of cancer victims.

Pierce County sheriff's deputies detained a person who reportedly shot the victim at a cancer fundraiser called “Metal Fest.” The victim was taken to Tacoma General Hospital.

Sheriff's spokesman Ed Troyer did not identify the suspect or the victim Saturday night. He said a dispute broke out at Uncle Sam's American Bar and Grill in the 16000 block of Pacific Avenue.

The victim belonged to a motorcycle club called the Bandidos, which participates in events for an umbrella fundraising group called Bikers Fighting Cancer. The shooter came from another club called Ghostriders.

The person in custody reportedly shot the victim with a high-caliber handgun sometime after 8 p.m. Other people at the event reportedly assaulted the shooter and stripped the man of the gun.

Troyer said the shooter likely would need medical attention because of the assault. Deputies late Saturday were looking for another member of the Ghostriders, a 70-year-old, reportedly blind man who left the scene before officers arrived. His car was left at the restaurant.

Deputies are sorting through conflicting accounts about the shooting, Troyer said. Some attendees appeared to have traveled to the event from out of state.
