University Place woman killed in head-on collision in Federal Way

A 48-year-old University Place woman was killed late Thursday when her car was hit head-on by a car that crossed the centerline of Pacific Highway South in Federal Way, police said Friday.

Jana L. Berry was killed in an accident about 11 p.m. in the 37000 block of Pacific Highway South.

She was heading south when her car was hit by a northbound car traveling without its lights on, police said. The second car was driven by a 32-year-old woman who had her 4-year-old son in the car. Berry’s car went airborne, landed sideways and was hit in the driver’s side door by a third car.

Berry was killed. The driver of the second car and her son were taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle for treatment of nonlife-threatening injuries. The driver of the third car suffered minor injuries.

Police suspect the woman driving the northbound car was either drunk or under the influence of drugs, and was driving with a suspended license. She was arrested on suspicion of vehicular homicide. She had no prior DUI convictions, police said.
